New York College of Podiatric Medicine

The New York College of Podiatric Medicine (NYCPM) is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious institution dedicated to podiatric medical education. Located in the heart of New York City, NYCPM has long been a leader in training skilled physicians and advancing research in foot and ankle care.

Despite its strong academic standing, NYCPM faced growing pressures to adapt to a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape. To maintain its leadership and enhance its impact, the college recognized the need for a forward-looking strategic plan—one that would sharpen its academic vision, strengthen clinical programs, and expand its fundraising capacity.

NYCPM partnered with the Winkler Group to guide this critical effort.

The Path Forward

Our strategic planning process was intentionally inclusive—designed to capture perspectives from every corner of NYCPM. We conducted extensive interviews and surveys with 92 participants, including: board members, alumni, faculty and staff, students and residents, and community partners.

This approach ensured that the final plan reflected both the institution’s rich legacy and its bold aspirations for the future.

Through these conversations, we identified four key themes that would shape the strategic plan: strengthening student success and academic excellence, enhancing patient care through cutting-edge clinical programs, deepening alumni and donor engagement to grow fundraising effectiveness, and expanding academic partnerships to broaden NYCPM’s reach and impact.

Together with college leadership, we developed a clear roadmap with goals and specific strategies to achieve these priorities.

The Result

The resulting strategic plan provided the New York College of Podiatric Medicine with a comprehensive framework to guide its next five years. More than just a document, the plan became a rallying point for the entire college community, galvanizing support for shared goals and positioning NYCPM for continued leadership in podiatric medical education.

The plan also strengthened board engagement—providing committees with a clear structure for advancing NYCPM’s mission and reporting progress at every board meeting.

With this strategic foundation in place, NYCPM is now well-positioned to remain at the forefront of podiatric medicine while advancing its educational, clinical, and philanthropic goals.
