One80 Place

One80 Place’s mission is to end and prevent homelessness. Because the lack of affordable housing in the South Carolina Lowcountry is the primary driver of homelessness, One80 Place launched a campaign to build 70 units of affordable housing on vacant land next to its shelter in the heart of downtown Charleston.

The Winkler Group worked closely with One80 Place to develop campaign messaging that linked affordable housing with ending homelessness. Board members and steering committee members, through Winkler Group-led training, became strategic ambassadors for the project.

The Result

The Welcome Home campaign quickly reached 160 percent of its goal, all while maintaining a strong annual fund. In the process, One80 Place became a model for innovative ways to end and prevent homelessness … permanently. And because of the project’s messaging and profile, One80 Place attracted the attention of Jeff Bezos’ Day One Fund and received a $5 million grant.
