One80 Place is a leading force in the effort to end and prevent homelessness in the South Carolina Lowcountry. While the organization had long provided shelter and supportive services, Charleston’s worsening affordable housing crisis required a more permanent solution.
Leadership recognized that without access to stable, affordable homes, efforts to end homelessness would only go so far. One80 Place envisioned a bold new project: building 70 units of affordable housing adjacent to its downtown shelter—providing long-term housing solutions for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
To turn that vision into reality, One80 Place partnered with the Winkler Group to lead the Welcome Home campaign.
The Campaign: Affordable Housing
Our campaign approach focused on a clear and compelling message: solving homelessness requires affordable housing.
We worked with One80 Place to: sharpen campaign messaging to connect affordable housing with their core mission, train board members and steering committee volunteers to confidently serve as campaign ambassadors, and equip staff and volunteers with strategies to build strong donor relationships and inspire stretch gifts.
By emphasizing the human stories behind homelessness and positioning housing as the solution, not just a service, we helped One80 Place build widespread support across the Charleston community.
